Mount Clare is a census-designated place located in Harrison County, West Virginia, United States. It is situated approximately four miles southwest of the city of Clarksburg and is a part of the Clarksburg Micropolitan Statistical Area.
The population of Mount Clare was 1,507 as of the 2010 U.S. Census. The community is home to several small businesses and residential areas. The nearby Watters Smith State Park offers hiking trails, picnic areas, and fishing opportunities.
Mount Clare is also known for its rich history dating back to the early 1800s when the first settler, William W. Farnsworth, established a farm in the area. The community played an important role in the development of the Western Virginia Railroad, which later became the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. The Mount Clare Historic District, which includes several historic buildings and structures, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
